Ray Chen
“Colors dance, moods swing, and Chen’s artistry blazes.” —The Times, London
Superstar violinist Ray Chen has it all: charisma for days, a deep musical sense, and incredible virtuosity. His recital with pianist Julio Elizalde puts his talents on full display with a program including the grandest in the violin repertory, Beethoven’s Violin Sonata No. 7 (“Eroica”), Bach’s cheerful, high-spirited Partita No. 3 for solo violin, Giuseppe Tartini’s fiendishly demanding Devil’s Trill Sonata, Dvořák’s romantic Slavonic Dance No. 2, a special arrangement of Chick Corea’s Spain, and more.
“Chen’s full-bodied lyricism … made for beautifully contoured phrases in the violin’s highest, riskiest registers.”
—The New York Times
“Ray Chen can do pretty much anything he wants on the violin.”
—Anne Midgette, The Washington Post
