Monterey Jazz Festival On Tour
60th Anniversary Celebration
“Irresistible” – NPR
Featuring Cécile Mclorin Salvant, Bria Skonberg, Melissa Aldana, Yasushi Nakamura, Christian Sands, & Jamison Ross
At 60 years of age, Monterey Jazz Festival holds the distinction of being the longest consecutively-running jazz festival in the world. This tour celebrates Monterey Jazz Festival’s legacy of expanding the boundaries of live jazz. This performance, featuring the incomparable young vocalist, international superstar and multi-Grammy® Award winner, Cécile McLorin Salvant, demonstrates Monterey Jazz Festival’s “traditional-untraditionalist” attitude, jazz-with-a-purpose exuberance, and joyful fun that continue to be their hallmarks. This jazz dream team includes East Lansing favorites Christian Sands at the piano and the versatile Bria Skonberg on trumpet and vocals, with Melissa Aldana on tenor sax, Yasushi Nakamura on bass and, rounding out the ensemble, Jamison Ross on drums and percussion.
“If anyone can extend the lineage of the big three – Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughan and Ella Fitzgerald – it is [Cécile McLorin Salvant]” – The New York Times
