MasterWorks 6: A Glorious End!
Guest Artist: Gilmore Young Artist, Piano
Theofanidis: Rainbow Body
TBA: Piano Concerto
Brahms: Symphony No. 4 in E Minor
Written in 2000, Christopher Theofanidis’ colorful “Rainbow Body” catapulted him into stardom when he won the London Masterprize competition. Colorful and constantly building, the unconventional development of the theme is pleasing to the ear and has become an instant classic. Our piano soloist for this concert will be one of two talented winners of the 2014 Gilmore Young Artist, performing a concerto with the Lansing Symphony. Premiered in Germany was Brahms’ final symphony, a monumental work of lyrical expression and rich texture. Evident in the fourth movement of his Symphony No. 4, Brahms pulled from the styles and forms of earlier times. This makes for a perfect ending to a glorious season!
