Imani Winds
“the ensemble’s hot rapport churns with conviction throughout…” – Gramophone
Imani Winds is back! Hailed as “dazzling” and “exhilarating” by The Washington Post, the multi Grammy nominated Imani Winds has led both a revolution and evolution of the wind quintet for over 20 years through dynamic playing, adventurous programming, imaginative collaborations and outreach endeavors, inspiring audiences of all ages and backgrounds.
The ensemble has titled the evening “Black and Brown,” showcasing works all by composers of color, including Paquito D’Rivera’s Aires Tropicales and Reena Esmail’s acclaimed The Light is the Same. The performance also features music legend Wayne Shorter's Terra Incognita, written for Imani Winds in 2006, and will be a tribute to Wayne Shorter, who passed away on March 2 this year.
Imani Wind will also have a multi-day residency at MSU’s College of Music March 24-27.
