Balé Folclórico Da Bahia
“The raw energy of Brazil’s Balé Folclórico da Bahia nearly blew the roof off...” –Cleveland Plain Dealer
Balé Folclórico da Bahia perfectly exemplifies the exuberant cultural traditions and vibrancy of Brazil. The only professional folk dance company in Brazil, Balé Folclórico da Bahia has earned a prestigious reputation around the globe, clearly reflected in the response of audiences and critics alike. The 38 dancers, musicians and singers perform a spectacular repertory based on “Bahian” folkloric dances of African origin including slave dances, capoeira (Afro-Brazilian martial arts), samba, and dances celebrating Carnival. The company presents the region’s most important cultural traditions under a theatrical vision that reflects its popular origins.
Ideal for ages 10 and up.

Walson Botelho Co-Founder and Executive Director of Bale Folclorico da Bahia will join diners to discuss this exuberant company from Brazil. At 16, Mr Botelho discovered the dances of his ancestors after years of training as a ballet dancer. He ultimately founded the company after he "..realized there was no ...artistic group reflecting my culture, so had to start my own company." He may discuss this story, the dances, and the community, rituals and culture from which they spring.
