THE AUGUST:OSAGE COUNTY PROJECT
A Collaboration Between
MSU Federal Credit Union Institute For Arts & Creativity at Wharton Center and
The Steppenwolf Theatre of Chicago
The MSU Federal Credit Union Institute For Arts & Creativity at Wharton Center will join forces with the Tony Award Winning Steppenwolf Theatre Company to offer a unique opportunity for young professional lifelong learners, ages 25-45, by providing insight into the Pulitzer Prize winning drama August: Osage County. Participants in the August: Osage County Project will be involved in a free hands-on, participatory pre-performance workshop led by Steppenwolf's Director of Education Hallie Gordon. This workshop will take place at Wharton Center on Saturday, February 6th, 2010 from 1:00pm to 4:00pm and is meant to illuminate the play's brilliance, complexity and relevance on a variety of levels including an exploration of some of the play's scenes. Participants need not be actors or regular theatre goers. This will be followed by a pre-show meeting with an August: Osage County cast member from the Broadway touring company and one complimentary ticket to the February 17th performance of the show at 7:30pm. Participants will also receive a free copy of the play.
The overall goal of the August: Osage County Project is to help build an audience for serious theatre by enlisting a group of younger adults, which studies have shown to be the least likely to attend a straight play and are often ignored by arts education programs. By engaging this group we are hoping that young adults begin to see serious drama as a viable source of entertainment.
