Casting Noctice

The MSU Federal Credit Union Institute for Arts & Creativity at the Wharton Center is casting Two shows for the 2010/2011 season. These shows are:
The Jack Sprat Low-Fat World Tour and Theory of Mind.

The Jack Sprat Low-Fat World Tour

We will be casting 2 non–equity roles for our November tour of the musical for children called The Jack Sprat Low-Fat World Tour. The show will be directed and choreographed by New York City director Dev Janki with musical direction by Ryan Lewis and produced by Bert Goldstein.

Jack Sprat can eat no fat. His wife Gloria can eat no lean. Concerned about his wife’s poor eating habits and the effects on her health, Jack enlists the help of MC Hubbard, a hip and musical ?everyman? to help rid Gloria’s cupboard of junk food. He then takes her on a whirlwind tour of the grocery store, where Gloria learns a world of knowledge about good living through nutritious food choices.

In addition to great songs, dancing and a good deal of humor the show features lots of audience participation. Students pretend to be antibodies fighting disease, express their feelings about vegetables on the "Okra Winfrey Show" and even dance a Vitamin C conga!

First Rehearsal: October 15, 2010
Tour Dates: November 1- 14 (The show will tour mid and northern Michigan).

Seeking non-Equity actors who sing and move well to play chorus and understudy principals.

Actors should prepare an uptempo musical theatre song and have a second choice ready. Also, actors will be asked to perform a short comic monologue.

Theory of Mind

A play by Ken LaZebnik, directed by Bert Goldstein. We are looking for 3 non-equity actors for this production.

Theory of Mind is a sensitive, yet unsentimental, portrait of a young man with Asperger’s Syn-drome. Bill is a college bound seventeen year old, equipped with scholastic brilliance, but low emotional intelligence; keen self awareness, yet an inability to read social cues; and a charm-ing directness. He is also uncertain about relationships, anxious about dating, and prone to taking everything he hears literally. His outing with Hilo, a girl from his youth group, be-comes a memorable, insightful look at tugs, shifts, and about faces found on the autism spec-trum and challenges awaiting young people as they look to their uncertain futures.

First Rehearsal: February 28, 2011
Previews: March 16, 2011
Opens at Wharton Center: March 17, 2011
Tours: March 21-26, 2011

Actors should prepare 2 contrasting monologues, not to exceed 4 minutes.
