Running Time: 2 hours 30 minutes

Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra (JLCO) return to Wharton Center for an unforgettable evening with the MSU College of Music Symphony Orchestra. More than 125 musicians will take the stage for a unique pairing of classical compositions and jazzy renditions. The program blends classical and jazz idioms, pairing Edvard Grieg’s Peer Gynt suites, performed by the MSU Symphony Orchestra with conductor Leon Gregorian and soprano soloist Molly Fillmore, with Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn’s jazz orchestration of the same work, performed by the JLCO. Originally composed as incidental music for Henrik Ibsen’s play of the same name, Grieg’s Peer Gynt suites are among the composer’s most enduring and popular works.

The evening will also include a world premiere of a new piece celebrating Michigan, composed by Marsalis and performed by the combined talents of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra and the MSU Symphony Orchestra. Don’t miss this chance to be part of history in the making!
